This is a general-purpose browser that can be installed on any RIM wireless handheld with RIM OS, to access any application deployed on the server side using a custom markup language based on XML standards. This can be used in deploying applications like sales force automation, work order management, financial and location-based services.
Functionality
The RIM micro browser is developed on RIM OS. The micro browser requests content through a Fixed Station Terminal (FST) over the Mobitex Network. The server (FST) fetches content from the Internet and processes it, converts into micro browser understandable XML format and sends it back to the device. The browser dynamically generates the UI upon receiving the response from the Server. The data is transferred between the server and the device in the form of MPAKs (Mobitex Packet). The browser is compatible with RIM Pager 957 device.
