Avantel developed S-band Receiver for Ship to Shore communications. It establishes a secured channel for communications. Developed for return link of MSS band (2500MHz to 2520MHz); the receiver boasts G/T of - 23.8 dB/K. It consists of super heterodyne non-inverting double down conversion and DSP based BPSK demodulator. The synthesized LO allows carrier selection at 20KHz step size whereas the DSP based demodulator takes care of carrier uncertainty upto ± 5KHz. The patch antenna provided ± 60° coverage eliminating need of stabilization platforms in most of the applications (With appropriate Tx EIRP).

The signals received in S-band will be passed through LNA, BPF and Down Converter unit. S-band signal will be converted to 70 MHz using Dual Down Converter. 70 MHz IF will passed through a SAW filter and fed to the BPSK Demodulator card. BPSK Demodulator is DSP based Demodulator. The demodulated data will be fed to the PC through serial port. The application software in the PC will receive the packet from the demodulator. The recipient address will be checked by the software. If the recipient address is its own/Group/ broadcast address then the packet will be accepted and processed. The final message will be saved in the database and indication will be given to the user about the arrival of the new message. If the recipient address is not its own, then the packet will be discarded.
